Title: The White Temple

Photographer: Marcus Danz

Location: Krabi, Thailand

Year taken: 2018

Image description: Only a stone‘s throw away from Krabi‘s busy streets, Wat Kaew Korawaram, one of the largest local Buddhist temples, appears like an oasis of peace in the last light of the setting sun.

Background story: Ever since I had an unpleasant encounter with extraordinarily pushy traders at a Tunisian bazaar some years ago, I have lost my appetite for shopping experiences of this kind.

My family was therefore not particularly surprised that I would gladly forego a visit of Krabi’s famous night market.

While my wife and daughters joined its hustle and bustle, I went to the nearby White Temple instead. After exploring Wat Kaew Korawaram, I quickly found a nice composition and waited for dusk to fall. I expected to see illuminated lamps to the left and right of the square in the foreground anytime soon.

Time passed, the sun set, it got dark - but the lights weren’t turned on. After my family was finished with the market, they came by and urged me to return to the hotel, so I couldn't wait any longer for the lights to come on.

That’s why the planned night photo turned into a sunset picture, for which I could fall back on the test shots I had taken before dawn.
