Title: The foggy Loop

Photographer: Marcus Danz

Location: Mettlach, Germany

Year taken: 2018

Image description: Mysterious morning fog drifts silently through Mettlach’s Saar loop, partly lit by the warm light of the rising sun.

Background story: Although I wanted to take it easy on photography during our short family holiday, and despite the fact we had already planned a trip to the city of Trier, I just couldn't resist this opportunity - the weather forecast for the Saar Loop area looked way too promising for the upcoming morning ...

As I would be returning to the holiday accommodation shortly after sunrise, I would neither miss breakfast, nor the trip to Trier, so my photographic ambitions and our family activities were easy to combine.

When I reached the Saar loop after a 45-minute drive and a short walk, there was only one other fellow photographer on site. In the twilight that had just set in, I was confident that the high clouds would make for a colorful sunrise, and since the entire riverbed was filled with billowing mist, my photography luck couldn’t get any better.

In the peaceful silence of this morning, I enjoyed the the silently drifting fog, which slowly dissolved in the rising sun‘s light, before I headed back to my family in high spirits - with a beautiful shot and fresh bread rolls for my loved ones.
