Title: Autumn under Neuschwanstein

Photographer: Marcus Danz

Location: Schwangau, Germany

Year taken: 2018

Image description: Shrouded in mist, Neuschwanstein Castle towers majestically above the autumnly colored woods.

Background story: How long had I been seeking for an opportunity to photograph romantic Neuschwanstein Castle?

I don't remember, but in 2018 the time had finally come: on our way to a photo tour in Tuscany, we made a stopover in Schwangau, although according to the weather forecast, there was a threat of upcoming severe storms.

Beforehand, we had decided to look for the spectacular but hidden and extremely difficult to reach viewpoint opposite of Neuschwanstein’s east facade. But due to the increasingly dense fog, we discarded this plan, as the castle would not have been visible from there anyway.

So all I got from my first visit to Neuschwanstein Castle was this picture that I took from the presumably least spectacular vantage point possible: The car park.

But this was only the beginning of my very special relationship with this castle, which is still alive. You can find out more about that story here:
