Title: Low Tide at Sunset

Photographer: Marcus Danz

Location: Ko Phak Bia, Thailand

Year taken: 2018

Image description: When the evening offers such a wonderful view of Thailand's breathtaking coastal landscape, the trouble of the day is quickly forgotten.

Background story: Besides this amazing sunset, the family day trip "Hong Island with Sunset BBQ" we booked was rather disappointing from start to finish.

To start of our pickup-shuttle from our hotel was delayed by an hour. We were taken to the pier, where we had to wait another hour for our boat in the midday heat.

Hong Island was beautiful, but the snorkelling experience wasn’t. The water was clouded by the rain of the previous day and hardly any fish honoured us with its presence.

Unfortunately, entering the blue lagoon was not possible due to low tide, so we skipped that and headed straight to the the island of Koh Phak Bia to enjoy the sunset BBQ. After an hour of preparation our tour guides served us rice and heated up croquettes, as well as rum and Coke to wash down these delicacies.

I am fine with rum, I am fine with Coke, and I don’t mind mixing them either. But since we were traveling with two little kids, we would have appreciated something different to drink for sure.

Nonetheless, my wife and I  tried to make the best of the situation and gazed, slightly tipsy, at this great sunset - with cold rice, cardboard croquettes and two children on a caffeine high.
